Wade Oakley 2026

Ashtanga Immersion + Off-site Strength Training Seminar with Wade Oakley

March 4-8, 2026 - Antigua, Guatemala

Join Wade Oakley for a 5-day immersion into the rich tradition of Ashtanga Yoga. Wade began practicing in 2012 at the University of Virginia under Certified teacher John Bultman, and since 2014 he has made many extended trips to Mysore, India, to study with R. Sharath Jois. In 2018, Wade was granted Level 2 Authorization by Sharathji. To honor his teacher, he continues to practice and share Ashtanga in the spirit and tradition carried forward from Mysore to communities around the world.
Wade teaches with the belief that practice is not separate from life but a foundation for it. A yoga sadhana is precious, something to be cultivated carefully tended like a garden: nourishing, challenging, and ultimately sustaining. His approach encourages curiosity, attentiveness, and a sense of personal ownership, with the conviction that Ashtanga can be a boundless source of strength, clarity, and enrichment throughout life.

Workshop 1: Gateways & Gatekeepers: Exploring Hips & Shoulders
10:30-12:30pm
The hips and shoulders serve as both gateways and gatekeepers in practice. When they move well, they offer freedom, strength, and an incredible range of motion. When they do not, they become the places where we encounter resistance (even pain or injury), especially in more demanding postures. These joints hold enormous potential, yet without resilience and awareness they are also points of vulnerability. In this workshop, we will explore how the hips and shoulders shape the way we practice, what they reveal about our patterns of strength and restriction, and how breath, bandha, and attention to thoughtful movement can bring stability, safety, and ease. Expect a balance of discussion and practical exploration, with tools to support a sustainable and evolving practice. Open to all levels.

Workshop 2: Back to the Start: Surya Namaskara & the Aditya Hrdayam
10:30am-12:30pm
Add texture to regular asana practice by layering in a healthy dose of chanting, stories, yoga philosophy, and a microscopic lens on each vinyasa of sun salutations. We’ll learn the story of the Aditya Hrdayam and chant it together. We’ll conclude our time together back where it all starts, examining sun salutations and using them as a reference structure to explore breath, bandhas, drishti – even chanting and prayer. Wrap up the five days together and leave with new tools, renewed focus, and a sense of clarity to carry into the next ekam inhale.

About Antigua

Antigua is a small city surrounded by volcanoes in southern Guatemala. The city’s cobbled 9×9 block streets are slow paced, easy-to-navigate with cafes, farm-to-table restaurants, artisan markets, and historical sites located throughout. It’s renowned for its colorful Spanish colonial buildings, this beautiful and magical city has almost five hundred years of history, with a privileged all-year-long climate. If you visit Guatemala during March for this training, you can expect warm, dry days, with little to no rainfall. Temperatures average in the high 70s during this time.
